Late Kashiram Chowdhury was a visionary who established his tea business more than 70 years ago in the tea growing region of Jalpaiguri.

His son Brijmohan Chowdhury, Chairman of the K.B.T group took over the business and flourished it in the foothills of Darjeeling, the picturesque town Siliguri, and expanded the same to retailing outside the state.

In the year 1995, under the qualified and experienced hand of the third generation Srawan Chowdhury, Managing Director, the group started its packet tea with the brand name of City Gold Tea and revealed its operation from the hub of quality tea production of world famous Darjeeling, Dooars and Assam Tea.

In the year 2018, fourth generation Shubham Chowdhury, Director, joined the family business and took the brand to a new height. He started to get into modern trade, online business as well as pro actively took step according to the present market trend.

In the year 2015, the group diversified into the world of Spices with the Brand name City Gold Masala.
